Taken at Bald Hill, 10th June 2006 The insert shows the small lateral petals (the spurs) and the lateral sepals between the spurs. The hood (dorsal sepal) is only 10 to 12 mm long. The labellum inside the hood is described as tubular. It appears to me to be like a cave that the fertilizing gnat or wasp enters to approach the small column completely concealed within this tube. The insects involved are not known as far as I can find out. |
