Located just north of the South Gippsland Highway, about halfway between Welshpool and Yarram is what remains of Gelliondale. Originally known as Gellion's Run, coal was mined here for a time and a large town planned. However the coal ran out and the reason for a town disappeared. A state flora and fauna reserve was created about 1968 in response to pressure (from among others) the Latrobe Valley Field Naturalists Club. Today, all that is left of the town are some pine trees, a few houses and the old Dale's Hotel, now a private home. The Gelliondale Briquette Factory (built in 1929) located on the corner of Coal Pit Road and South Gippsland Highway is a listed Heritage building by the Victorian State Government. This factory produced briquettes from 1935 to 1950.
